Tears... A Break Between Smiles

Awake I lie,
in darkness I hide,
not willing to show,
not wanting to fake
a smile.

A mask I wear,
so nobody shares
the pain I feel,
the thoughts I dread
in silence.

A sigh of ease,
alone in peace,
no need to smile
no need to act
for others.

And then they come,
freely and welcomed,
a break between lies,
a break between smiles;
tears.
